The giving season is here. As you begin to feel the holiday cheer and ponder time spent with family, we ask you to support the NCF Holiday Toy Drive! President/Founder, Nurse’s Children Foundation - Leslie Silket Speaks at Nurses Take DC Event
Nurses Take DC is honored to announce that Leslie Silket will be speaking at the rally on May 5th.
Leslie Silket is an advocate and an activist. A Registered Nurse (RN), she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from San Francisco State University in 1990. For the next 22 years she dedicated herself to improving patient care; both at the bedside and on the state and national level at the State Capital in Sacramento, California, and in Washington D.C.
As a member of California Nurses Association, Leslie along with other California nurses fought for nurse-patient ratios. AB 394 was passed in 1999.
In 2012, after the tragic death of a co-worker Leslie resigned her position with the hospital and the union, stepping away from working full-time at the patient bedside, to establish Nurse’s Children Foundation Inc. (NCF), a non-profit organization committed to raising funds to financially benefit children who have suffered the loss of a parent in the nursing profession. In addition, since 2014, under the auspices of NCF, Leslie has organized an annual holiday toy drive for children and families living in shelters and for families in need in the Oakland-San Francisco Bay Area. In 2016 she received the Jefferson Award- Bay Area Region for her service to the community.
Leslie recently resumed her advocacy for patient care, working as a full-time Nurse Case Manager with AIDS Project of East Bay, where she provides comprehensive RN and MSW case management assistance to the most vulnerable patients living with HIV/AIDS. Leslie also continues to practice as a bedside nurse at a major trauma hospital.
Nurses Take DC, a grassroots movement led by Show Me Your Stethoscope, is organizing thousands of nurses across the country to rally in Washington DC to demand Safe Nurse-Patient Ratios to save the lives of our patients and the nursing profession. #NursesTakeDC is calling for the passing of the Bill H.R.1602 & S.864 that provides nurse patient ratios.
The 2017 #NursesTakeDC Rally for Nurse-Patient Ratios, will take place:
